Posted 2/12/12 To all Odyssey Coaches, Judges and Volunteers,We have been notified by the Moon Area SD that we will need to provide 5 people, in shifts, to be hall monitors in the new HS during our Tournament. Please inquire of all your team’s supporters and Volunteer to see if they would be willing to be one of our hall monitors and let me know. Parking will be limited again this year. We have ten more tams this year than last. We are working to provide shuttle bus service between the Port Authority Park & Ride lot on University Blvd and the HS/MS complex. The police will be patrolling the complex and ticketing, potentially towing illegally parked vehicles. Please don’t be one of them. Each team will have a prop storage area designated by a sign with their team name and # taped on the wall or floor in a hallway near their Long Term performance site. Let us all please make sure that we behave with such grace and decorum that the school district is excited to invite us back next year. Tournament scheduling is well under way. Coaches......Please look in your email for a note listing the two Problem times for your team. You will have two days to verify with all concerned that there are no conflicts with these times and respond to me if we need to make a change. Final schedule will be posted to our website early in the week of the Tournament. Notice to those if you in Problem #2 Weird Science.....there will be a protective membrane covering the floor in the HS will your teams will be performing. Bill Nimick Posted 2/12/12 Spontaneous Fun Day is upon us.This Saturday, Feb 18, in the cafeteria of Linton MS in Penn Hills.
This year we are featuring a Problem or two that were created by teams last year while in the Fun Day holding room. See if you can tell which one! Please bring books, games and activities for your team to enjoy while they wait in the cafeteria between Problem solving sessions. Current weather predictions are for an OK day, but a bit chilly for being outside. Please keep in mind that the supervision of your team is a Coach’s responsibility. All Judging roles require an all day commitment. A Volunteer will only be needed for an hour or two. There is a penalty of up to 25 points assessed against the team if there are not trained Judges to represent the team at the Regional Tournament. Remember to ask teachers to be a Judge as they can earn 10 - ACT 48 hours free of charge (we even throw in a free pizza lunch at training ) if they attend Judge Training Day AND fulfill their assigned role at the Regional Tournament. All dates, times, places, directions for all of our events can be found in the "Events/Dates" Tab of this website. And needed addresses, as well as email addresses are found in the "Contacts" page for all Problem Captains and W PA Regional Board members. While all of us on your Regional Board of Directors REALLY love working with the Odyssey of the Mind program, we all recognize that the only constant is change. Please let us know if you have an interest in becoming more active with the management end of this outstanding program. December Hint: . . . Work with the team so that they USE ALL 8 MINUTES OF THE Long Term presentation time. Remember that in Odyssey there is no such thing as a stupid question.
